Framilode and Saul

From its entrance off the River Severn at Framilode, the canal closely followed the River Frome across the fields and was crossed by the later Gloucester & Berkeley Canal at Saul Junction. This section gradually went out of use during the nineteenth century as vessels increasingly joined and left the Stroudwater at Saul Junction, and in the 1970s most of it was merged with the River Frome as part of a major flood prevention scheme.
